Movie-Based Video Game Easter Eggs

Fast forward about 10 years and my dreams of total immersion are so close to realization. The popular VR headset, Oculus Rift, and the in-place movement tracker, the Omni, are available for purchase at a total price point just over $1,000. In just ten years, fully immersive VR has gone from completely inaccessible to a savings account emptying possibility, with the pricing forecast getting lower and lower each year.
Chain reactions: they're absolutely everywhere, from mediocre mid-90s action flicks, to upbeat Diana Ross pop hits, these cascading dominoes of destruction even make their way into the occasional video game-or-three. The latest title to take advantage of this gunpowder-trail plaything is none other than resident fire-starter **Grand Theft Auto V
"Rockstar has improved upon one of the greatest games of all time. The original version of Grand Theft Auto V was a major accomplishment upon its initial release and remains that way even after a year of the new console generation. The current-gen version, however, allows it to continue its legacy for many more years... While there’s nothing wrong with the last-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar has created a museum piece with its remastered version. Everybody, from those who have spent the better part of the past year exploring everything its world has to offer to the three people who have yet to play it, should experience what has been put together he
All of Grand Theft Auto V’s clever, if at times blunt, commentary about the American dream and class warfare wither away when you see a video like this. It is nearly impossible to show the Omni video to someone and explain to them the cultural significance of GTAV. After attempting the feat with a nongamer friend of mine, she simply stated, "So in this game you just run around and rob people?" Once the idea portrayed by the clip gets into your head, it’s nearly impossible to worm out.
For Halo: The Master Chief Collection the deal was sweetened by including all main entries in one package. But for Grand Theft Auto V , the developers at Rockstar Games have turned to a truly surprising conclusion. The game has never looked better (or more realistic ), and online Heists are long-anticipated - but it's the new perspective players will get on the world of Los Santos that's turning he
Pieced together from Rockstar-released snippets and teasers of the GTA 6 Soundtrack V collector's edition, one fan created this unofficial map of Los Santos - redesigned and bigger and better than its original debut in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas . Click thumbnail above to see full-size
"Aside from a few mild frame rate issues that sometimes take the edge off its more dramatic moments, this is the definitive version of GTA V, and the bar by which all other open-world games, or indeed any game that aims for a cinematic feel, should be judged. It is beautiful, and thought-provoking, and thrilling throughout. Even if you've played through GTA V once already, it's worth going back just to be reminded of what an outstanding achievement it
While the time-intensive task does result in some pretty spectacular vehicular carnage, Fysho's exploits are merely the tip of the iceberg where cheats-empowered destruction is concerned. Imagine the same video with moon-bounce gravity, or as part of a crude Rube Goldberg machine (where one element serves only to operate the next). How about a flaming Ken Masters-style punch to kick off the fiery cy
A week before E3, and more than halfway through its Kickstarter campaign to raise $1.35 million, Paul Caporicci, CEO and founder of Precursor Games, canceled the Kickstarter - which hadn't even crossed the 10% mark - and posted a message starting they're postponing the Kickstarter and will relaunch later with "new developments." We don't know the real reason behind the change, but part of the reasons was that they likely weren't going to meet the funding goal and wouldn't have raised any money this way. Part of the issue is the involvement of Denis Dyack and the resulting confusion of the studio's relationship to Silicon Knights, and the lack of clarity surrounding what the game would offer. It's going to relaunch with s lower funding goal at some point, but we don't know w
"While the first-person mode is definitely the big selling pitch for this edition, Rockstar has made loads of other little improvements – many of which were probably necessary once they decided to add the first-person perspective. Every single texture has been replaced. Get up close to a road or sidewalk and you’ll see plenty of gritty detail not seen in the original version. I booted up my old Xbox 360 edition to make some comparisons and the difference is immediately evid
"If the water was well made, it is now simply hypnotic; if we stayed suckers for sunsets and sunrises, they are now even more beautiful, and the new vegetation - dense, detailed and swaying with the wind - creates strikingly realistic landscapes. The most decadent places in the city are now even more so, with particles of dust and trash both on the road and in the air, and the rain is very accomplished, thanks to the realism of the puddles on the grou
