SEGA's Yakuza series has been around since 2005 and released exclusively on PlayStation consoles in the West. Yakuza 0 makes a good starting point for those new to the series as it's a prequel to the original Yakuza — the original Yakuza game named Yakuza: Kiwami has been remade from the ground up for the PlayStation 4 and will be released in August 2
The Witcher 3 concludes the story of Geralt of Rivia and is considered one the best open-world role-playing games of this generation. The series setting is a dark fantasy that is a far cry from the high fantasy of Warcraft or Lord Of The Rin
Quite a few of these open world games have received widespread critical acclaim, standing as some of the highest-rated video games made to date. Open world games are often massive undertakings, and as a result, tend to give players more play time than most titles, whether that time is spent completing quests or just messing around in the sand
The side-quests can be wacky, tongue-in-cheek, and even a bit strange, but it's Yakuza 0's main story —surrounding each character's personal development— that is the real draw. With Kazuma learning how to readjust to life outside of prison, and Goro breaking free of forced captivity and dealing with the aftermath of being tortured. The writing is exceptional, and the payoff from the beginning to the end is both emotional and satisfy
A lot of film enthusiasts are pummeling the upcoming Battleship movie for being an unabashed rip-off of Transformers . Honestly, I don’t mind. The movie seems purely designed to make money and never would have happened had it stuck to the actual board game roots. (You’d be hard pressed to make a Monopoly movie too these days without a sequoia in Marvin Gardens breeding a zombie infection.) Rather, it’s Activision and Hasbro’s announcement of an FPS/strategy hybrid based off the film that has me running for the lifebo
While the time-intensive task does result in some pretty spectacular vehicular carnage, Fysho's exploits are merely the tip of the iceberg where cheats-empowered destruction is concerned. Imagine the same video with moon-bounce gravity, or as part of a crude Rube Goldberg machine (where one element serves only to operate the next). How about a flaming Ken Masters-style punch to kick off the fiery cy
But until that happens, you've got the Game Ranter Banter discussion to look forward to. This week, five of our lovely writers talk about the new Battleship game, based off the movie... based off of the game. In addition, we discuss Double Fine's unprecedented success with Kickstarter, why terrible games can sometimes be the most enjoyable, the UMD Passport's absence outside of Japan, and the release date for Grand Theft Auto V . Without further ado, let's get this star
Chain reactions: they're absolutely everywhere, from mediocre mid-90s action flicks, to upbeat Diana Ross pop hits, these cascading dominoes of destruction even make their way into the occasional video game-or-three. The latest title to take advantage of this gunpowder-trail plaything is none other than resident fire-starter **Grand Theft Auto V
I've lost count at this point, but the fun loving Nathan Drake, across his five adventures, has to have killed at least a thousand men and somehow survived. Why he hasn't been recruited by Seal Team Six is beyond me. That being said, how can a man with that skill suck at video games. If you didn't know this by now, ps plus november 2024 there's a moment early on in Uncharted 4 when Nathan sits down with Elena to enjoy some after-dinner gaming via Crash Bandicoot on PS1. Now, technically you can beat her score, but it's pretty challenging and it's funnier canonically, and for the purpose of this joke, if you mess up. I guess if future treasure hunting rivals want to beat, him all they need to do is pop out a Game Boy, or someth
The online multiplayer, meanwhile, is what has kept Grand Theft Auto 5 going to this day, four years after its initial launch. Grand Theft Auto 5 's online multiplayer gives players the chance to create their own characters, purchase their own apartmenst and cars, and wreak mayhem with friends online. Supported by a number of game modes that continue to grow in number with each update, Grand Theft Auto 5 's online is the blueprint other open world multiplayer games should fol
Another recent release that we're gonna pick apart is Resident Evil 7: Biohazard . There are plenty of memes out there I could tackle from the series in the past, including Leon being the sole agent sent in to rescue the president’s daughter in Resident Evil 4. Anyway very early in the game our hero, Ethan, has his left armed cut off via a chainsaw from his possessed wife, Mia. You immediately then pour some herbal water on it, as if that helps, and then fight her again with your one arm, as if you wouldn't pass out from blood loss instead. Somehow, hours later, the Baker family were able to reattach your hand like magic. Ethan’s reaction to me is what’s most troublesome. He yells from shock after initially losing it, but he is surprisingly calm afterward. He’s more scared of some bugs later on in the game. Suffice it to say, I think Ethan is emotionally stunted. Maybe this isn’t the first time Mia took a chainsaw to
